Hatchery Manager 
Hatchery Manager Job Posting West Coast Fishculture is looking for a hatchery manager! Who We Are West Coast Fishculture began in 1973 as a small family business which quickly grew into a substantial farming operation. The founding principle was a vision to do fish farming the right way. We continue to hold true to that principle of producing high quality fish in a socially and environmentally responsible way and now lead the world in best practices for farming fish sustainably. West Coast Fish Culture s husbandry practices, rearing technology and harvesting methods are recognized and certified by the Vancouver Aquarium s Ocean Wise program. Responsibilities of Hatchery Manager The Hatchery Manager is responsible for a team of three to four technicians, and the day to day operations of the hatchery site. This includes managing up to 1 million Steelhead at various life stages, and the equipment and systems that are used to culture them. Skills and Qualifications Needed Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of five years of experience in aquaculture Minimum of a technical diploma in fisheries and aquaculture, biology or related discipline Minimum one year of experience in supervisory position Ideal Qualifications: Minimum of one year of experience with RAS Minimum of one year of experience in hatchery setting Experience working with rainbow trout Desired skills and attributes: Ability to remain calm under pressure Ability to lift 23kg/50 lbs. repeatedly throughout the workday High attention to detail meticulous organizational skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Efficient time management ability to multitask Ability to collaborate in a small team environment Ability to adapt to change and come up with solutions Ability to problem solve with technical competence Have an upbeat personality and positive attitude Proficient in basic mathematics Experience in basic mechanical repairs and plumbing Enjoy working outside, even in adverse weather conditions Comfortable working in proximity to wildlife ( bears, raccoons, etc.) Willingness to learn new skills and techniques to advance What West Coast Fishculture Offers to Employees Our hatchery and farm site are located on the beautiful Lois Lake, surrounded by forest and mountains.
