Oak Bay Parks, Recreation and Culture Cook Position: Cook HOURS OF WORK: Sunday-Monday various shifts between 7:00am-10:00pm; up to 25 hours per week as required. Please Note: Hours may vary based on operational requirements LOCATION(S): Oak Bay Recreation Centre RATE: $20.58 ($18.05 per hour plus $2.53 per hour in lieu of benefits - 2023 rates) STATUS: Auxiliary (This is a union position) BENEFITS 14% in lieu of benefits per hour Staff Membership to drop-in the weightroom, fitness classes, skating, and pool (applicable to employees with 1 or more set shifts per week) Do you love to cook and are certified? If you said yes, then we have the perfect fit for you! Oak Bay Recreation Centre is seeking a knowledgeable and dependable Cook to join the SportsView team. Working under the direction of the Food Services Manager the Cook will menu plan, prepare, and present nutritional and tasty meals, soups, and sandwiches. Oak Bay Parks, Recreation and Culture offers an additional 14% in pay per hour in lieu of benefits for auxiliary employees, a staff facility pass that provides access to our weightroom, pool, skating rink, and drop-in fitness classes (granted with a regularly scheduled weekly shift). RESPONSIBILITES Prepares daily menu items as ordered by patrons or Supervisor; Prepares and presents food in a pleasing manner; Adheres to all safety standards for the protection of public; Ensures cooking and service areas are kept clean at all times; Maintains the necessary kitchen supplies and equipment and notifies supervisor of any shortages, repairs, etc; Cleans bus trays, dish trays, pots and pans, and washes dishes as necessary to maintain continuity of service in food areas as necessary; Carves meats, portions food on plates to fill individual orders and buffets. QUALIFICATIONS Cooking experience in a similar environment; Successful completion of a recognized provincial food services program, or equivalent industry experience and training; Food Safe Level 1 certification; Provision of a current Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (Note: This is the applicants financial responsibility to obtain this). The District has previously enacted a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy to safeguard the wellbeing of all employees. This policy may be reinstated based on the level of assessed risk to District employees or Provincial Health Order requirements.
