Gitsegukla First Nation E LEMENTARY S CHOOL T EACHERS (G RADES 2 3, 4 5) Type of Position: Full time, permanent Closing Date: Until position filled About the Position: Gitsegukla is looking for highly motivated elementary school teachers responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Reporting to the School Principal, the elementary school teacher facilitates learning by establishing relationships with their students, and by organizing learning resources and their classrooms learning environment. Pay: These positions are compensated based on the Coast Mountain School District #82 pay scale. Accommodations are available for relocation. Key Responsibilities Program and Service Delivery Management: Teach all areas of the BC curriculum and take responsibility for the progress of students in the class Plan, prepare, and present lessons that cater to the needs of the ability ranges within the class Observe, assess, grade and record students performance and development through class work, homework, tests, and assignments Organize the classroom and learning resources and create displays to encourage a positive learning environment Work closely with Educational Assistants to support student progress, as required Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing, modeling, and enforcing rules and procedures and applying appropriate disciplinary measures where necessary Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by law, district policies, and school regulations Prepare required reports on students and activities Keep up to date with developments on the structure of the curriculum, teaching resources, and methods Organize and take part in meetings (department/school/parents), school events, outings, and activities some of which may take place on weekends or evenings Stakeholder Relations and Management Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents Provide feedback to parents and caregivers on a student's progress at parents' evenings and other meetings Liaise with colleagues and other professionals such as education welfare officers and educational psychologists, if required Work with parents and the community to maximize their involvement in the school and the development of resources for the school Skills and Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the BC teaching curriculum Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with students, teachers, aides, principals, parents, and others as needed Self-motivated High energy and empathy levels, including ability to engage the attention of a class Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills Excellent organizational and planning skills High resiliency Flexible and adaptable individual Experience and Education Requirements: A Bachelor of Education Degree or equivalent along with a valid BC teaching certificate or eligibility for membership in the BC College of Teachers or eligibility for certification with the BC Teacher Regulation Branch Certification is required. Minimum of two years satisfactory classroom teaching experience in the elementary school level is recommended. Ability to successfully and periodically undergo appropriate criminal record and / or vulnerable sector reviews and police record check are required. Background/experience with Indigenous culture and educational barriers considered assets.
