EDEN GARDENS JOB DESCRIPTION - Laundry REPORTS TO: Support Services Manager Department: Support Services / Housekeeping Laundry All team members at Eden Gardens embrace the Eden Philosophy of Care to create a Human Habitat were life is worth living, antidotes to the three plagues are abundant, all partners are growing and relationships flourish. Job Summary: As a Laundry Care Partner, you play an important role in helping to protect the dignity of the Elders, no matter what their disabilities may be. You ensure that the Elders have access at all times to their own clean clothing, so that they can make choices regarding what they will wear. You work hard to ensure that the colors and fabrics of each item are preserved, that the clothing is in good repair and that items do not get lost during the cleaning process. This means paying attention to bulk laundry loads to check for missing glasses, dentures, or other possessions at times. Doing laundry is a comforting and meaningful function that many of our Elders have been doing for years. Your skills in using your role to build relationships and bring meaning to the Elders lives will be important in our community. You should look for opportunities to involve interested Elders in your efforts to do the laundry daily. This may include teaching them how to use the neighborhood laundry machines, ensuring supplies are accessible, and if they are helping with folding, encouraging hand-washing to prevent the spread of infection. To support other care partners, you must be able to provide a supply of clean, disinfected linens for use in the individual neighborhoods at all times. As a part of the neighborhood care partner team, you help decide where linens should be stored for easy access. The laundry care partner must be willing to share their special knowledge with others to ensure that each neighborhood has the skills to handle laundry needs at all times. The duties are, but not limited to: Sorts and washes blankets and resident s personal laundry according to established policies and procedures. Issues linen stock from inventory for the floor to HCAs for appropriate distribution. Operates equipment such as ironers, washers, dryers and labeller. Loads and unloads domestic washers and dryers; operates same by selecting wash cycle, setting temperatures and switching the machines on and off. Weighs linen, collects linen from user areas. Racking laundry carts and ensure sent to appropriate area in the building. Advises families of any minor repairs or need to replace residents' clothing. Stock any laundry chemicals needed and advise when re-orders levels have been reached. Performs other related duties as assigned. Complete safety related training as required. Reports potential or actual safety concerns; contributes to and follows safe practices in accordance with WorkSafe BC and policies. Awareness and understanding of the well-being Strategies for this organization. Growth Partner (Supervisor) The housekeeping supervisor will assist you in your role by providing support, guidance, timely feedback, assist with personal growth plan, and education, as needed, to ensure your success as a care partner in our home. Education, Experience Requirements: Education, Training and other requirements Grade 10 or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to deal with others effectively. Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position. Ability to operate related equipment. Ability to organize work. Personal skills: Skills/certification in appropriate material handling and cleaning practices to minimize contamination and the spread of infection Compliance with Blood-borne Pathogen Exposure Control Policy, when applicable Knowledge about the safe handling of the various cleaning chemicals and solutions we use and compliance with EPA and OSHA regulations and standards Qualifications to operate various kinds and types of laundry equipment safely and properly Flexibility to design a work schedule for major laundry tasks that fits into the daily routine of the people living in the community Personal skills, traits, and a desire to care for people who are ill, disabled, or living with dementia and to work with families and other care partners Being responsive to the needs of the Elders, families, and your peers by keeping your promises Being a good steward of our environment and resources, making the neighborhood a place we can all be proud of and ensuring we have the resources we need Being a companion, balance giving and receiving for all, and be spontaneous at times A sense of humor Respect for everyone you have contact with Flexibility and a willingness to modify role duties for the overall good of the community and the Elders OTHER: Must be physically and mentally fit for the work environment Pass a Criminal Record Check upon hiring and every 4 - 5 years thereafter Must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 Must either receive annual flu vaccine, or wear appropriate PPE as prescribe by the PHO for the recommended flu season Willing to volunteer as an Ambassador for an assigned community, assisting with meal times and liaison ideas, compliments and concerns with the leadership team Participate in staff functions and events as requested and/or appropriate Physical Demands This position demands good physical and mental health. The ability to lift, push, transport laundry loads, or loaded carts. You must have the ability to tolerate prolonged walking, standing, bending, stooping, or climbing, as required. You may need to deal with high levels of stress, due to multiple demands and responsibilities in this role. You may be exposed to bio-hazardous material and will need knowledge of safe material handling procedures.
