EDEN GARDENS JOB DESCRIPTION - Housekeeper REPORTS TO: Support Services Manager Department: Support Services / Housekeeping Laundry All team members at Eden Gardens embrace the Eden Philosophy of Care to create a Human Habitat were life is worth living, antidotes to the three plagues are abundant, all partners are growing and relationships flourish. Job Summary: The Housekeeper Care Partner plays an important role in creating an environment where we all would want to live. In helping to create clean, sanitary, orderly, and comfortable surroundings for all care partners, you ensure that everyone feels welcome in our home. It is important to the Elders living here to have a home that they feel proud to share with friends and family. Because we care for each other, keeping the home clean helps us all stay healthy and prevents the spread of infection. As we develop our Human Habitat, you will be called upon to teach your skills and provide access to resources, so that others can assist in making our home a place that is always ready for company. Through your sacred work, you contribute to the well-being of individuals and the organization as a whole. Doing housekeeping is a comforting and meaningful function that many of our Elders have been doing for years. Your skills in building relationships and bringing meaning to the Elders lives will be important in our home. You should look for opportunities to involve interested Elders in your efforts to do the housekeeping in their rooms and/or neighborhood daily. The duties are, but not limited to: Cleans areas such as floors, stairways, walls, and windows. Cleans carpets and rugs. Cleans items such as furniture, woodwork, ledges, fixtures and blinds. Cleans and disinfects washrooms and replenishes items such as soap and towels. Cleans and tidies items such as cupboards, lockers, basins and tables; hangs and removes items such as drapes. Empties and cleans waste containers and removes garbage from buildings. Locks windows and doors following facility security procedures in the area they are working in. Reports damaged and/or inoperable fixtures and furniture. Clears or arranges for snow removal from building entrances in the absence of the maintenance supervisor. Ensuring adequate supplies stocked in all appropriate areas. Operates equipment such as ironers, swing buffer and auto-scrubber. Picks up dirty laundry, loads and unloads washers and dryers, and place on racks for pick up. Collects and weighs laundry to be cleaned off-site, e.g., linens. Loads and unloads laundry bins as applicable to this. Reports potential or actual safety concerns Contributes to and follows safe practices in accordance with WorkSafe BC, Professional practice standards, policies and Resident care plans Performs other related duties as assigned. Complete safety related training as required. Reports potential or actual safety concerns; contributes to and follows safe practices in accordance with WorkSafe BC and policies. Awareness and understanding of the well-being Strategies for this organization. Growth Partner (Supervisor) The housekeeping supervisor will assist you in your role by providing support, guidance, timely feedback, assist with personal growth plan, and education, as needed, to ensure your success as a care partner in our home. Education, Experience Requirements: Education, Training and other requirements Grade 10 or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to deal with others effectively. Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position. Ability to operate related equipment. Ability to organize work. Personal skills: Skills/certification in environmental service practices, safe chemical handling, and appropriate biohazardous waste clean-up and disposal Knowledge of all applicable regulations and guidelines. Flexibility to design a work schedule for major cleaning tasks that fits into the daily routine of the people living in the community Hospitality skills, so that new Elders rooms are prepared to enable them to feel welcome and at home as soon as possible A desire to keep the home in good repair and good working relationships with others to ensure that needed repairs are made quickly Personal skills, traits, and a desire to care for people who are ill, disabled, or living with dementia and to work with families, and other care partners Being responsive to the needs of the Elders, families, and your peers by keeping your promises Being a good steward of our environment and resources, making the neighborhood a place we can all be proud of, and assuring we have the resources we need Being a companion, balance giving and receiving for all, and be spontaneous at times A sense of humor Respect for everyone you have contact with Flexibility and a willingness to modify role duties for the overall good of the community and the Elders OTHER: Must be physically and mentally fit for the work environment Pass a Criminal Record Check upon hiring and every 4 - 5 years thereafter Must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 Must either receive annual flu vaccine, or wear appropriate PPE as prescribe by the PHO for the recommended flu season Willing to volunteer as an Ambassador for an assigned community, assisting with meal times and liaison ideas, compliments and concerns with the leadership team Participate in staff functions and events as requested and/or appropriate Physical Demands This position demands good physical and mental health. The housekeeper will be required to lift, carry, walk, sit, push, pull, and work a flexible schedule. He/she must be able to move continuously during work hours. He/she must have the ability to tolerate prolonged walking, standing, bending, stooping, or climbing, as required. In addition, the job involves the ability to tolerate and deal with high levels of stress, due to multiple demands and responsibilities in this role. You may be exposed to bio-hazardous material and should have knowledge of safe material handling procedures.
