Registered Psychiatric Nurse 
Position: Registered Psychiatric Nurse - Topaz Place/First Avenue REPORTS TO: Manager of Care POSITION SUMMARY This position provides support to Topaz Place, First Avenue and the Managers of Care to oversee assessment, resident care/recovery planning, medication administration, treatments, and to provide nursing judgment in routine and emergent situations. This position provides leadership and initiative to all HCW s and LPN s in the performance of their duties related to resident health care, ensuring that a high standard of care is provided to the residents at all times. Responsibilities may include 24/7 on-call availability. All duties are performed in accordance with established policies and procedures and in a manner which respects the dignity, worth, and the need for self-respect and self-determination of the residents while promoting independence. SPECIFIC DUTIES Oversees development and monitoring of health care/RCCS plans and goals for the residents of Topaz Place/First Avenue; addressing the physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of each. Communicates regularly with MOC s regarding same Meets with Mental Health Case Manager and MOC quarterly to review and monitor care/recovery plans and ensures recovery plans are maintained Provides direct nursing care, including administration of medications, medical treatments and documented procedures as per provincial regulations and facility policies and procedures and ensures medication administration compliance. Works closely with pharmacist/pharmacy to assess and promote the recovery journey for residents. Using good body mechanics and techniques; lifts, transfers and ambulates residents in a safe manner. Provides leadership/training to other staff in these areas as necessary. Uses established infection control techniques to prevent and control the spread of infection and provides ongoing teaching with staff and residents. Attends related in-services as required. Assists with the admission, transfer, and discharge of residents Evaluates the effectiveness of nursing care plans and treatments, and informs the MOC and/or the resident s physician of significant changes in the resident s condition. Assists the physician when necessary; receives and carries out doctor s orders, setting up medical appointments and maintains a good rapport with physicians and other medical practitioners (psychiatrist, case manager, mobile lab services, dentist, etc.) Maintains residents records to the required standards: updating client medical needs, oral/nutritional care plans and metabolic monitoring, etc. Responsible to ensure nursing equipment and designated work areas are kept clean and tidy Responsible to ensure that residents supplies/medications are ordered, received and stored Attends meetings/in-services as required and facilitates medical and psychiatric concerns at staff meetings Establishes and maintains good interpersonal relations with residents, staff, visitors and volunteers Together with the MOC, addresses work performance issues related to resident care Assists MOC with administrative tasks as needed Other duties as required REQUIREMENTS Current registration with the BCCN M and current CPR C Certificate Adherence to the Standards of Nursing Practice of BC Recent experience in related field is an asset A philosophy of service that is in line with Communitas Vision, Mission and Values Familiar with and able to implement Spirit of Gentleness principles Familiar with and able to implement Psychosocial Rehabilitation principles fostering a belief in the recovery process Sincere interest in supporting people who are aging Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing Ability to work as a member of a team as well as being able to work independently without supervision Ability to safely and efficiently operate all equipment associated with the duties of the position Ability to physically and emotionally carry out the duties of the position To meet us in person, please come and see us at the Black Press Hiring and Post-Secondary Education Expo. - Free Admission - Bring Your Resume Thursday June 22nd, 2023 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM Langley Event Centre (Gate #8) 7888 200th Street, Langley, BC (1157123h)
