Job Posting: Youth Assistant Position Title: Youth Legacy Bears Eagles Program Assistant Start Date: Asap Temporary Position to start Part-time - Full-time Hours Requirements: Clean Criminal Record Check and double vaccination. Position Summary: The Bears Eagles Program assistant works to empower and support youth and families impacted by diagnosed or suspected Complex Developmental Behavioural Conditions (CDBC), Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and Fetal Alcohol Effect (FAE). This position reports to Youth coordinator, the Executive Director or Board Designate. Hours of work are part time at 15 - hours per week or full time at 30 hours per week. Key Duties and Responsibilities: Provide flexible, timely and culturally sensitive supports for children and youth with confirmed or suspected FASD, and their families Aid in Designing activities to maintain or prompt planned changes in the behaviour, condition or functioning of children, youth and/or families Initiate direct contact with children, youth, families or communities for the purpose of engaging them in one or more services Develop a range of strategies for imparting knowledge, improving skills and building awareness of resources Aid in planning and implementing activities to connect a family, child or youth to a formal support/resource. Provide information about and referrals to other service and programs that may be useful to the child, youth and/or family Provide active listening and communication to child, youth, or family. Aid in supervising children, and youth darning programing. Assist in outdoor activities for children and youth; paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming, hiking, archery, outdoor exploration, etc Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Extensive knowledge of CDBC, FASD and FAE Knowledge and practical experience working with children and families Knowledge and experience with cognitive skill learning in children, and youth development. Leadership skills Ability to exercise patience and a positive attitude Communicate both written and orally. Passion for sports, outdoor activities, etc Indigenous Cultural Basic computer skills (word, PowerPoint, excel) Training, Education and Experience: Education Considerations: First aid Required Certificate of Early Childhood Education Diploma in Special Needs Child and Family Studies Child and youth care Social services diploma Or any other relevant postsecondary / university education Experience Required: The ability to work with children with special needs and intervention activities with families Metacognitive teaching strategies FASD, FAE, CDBC awareness, understanding, training and work experience preferred Minimum 2 yeas practical experience in a role of supervising children and families. Training required: FASD training provided on the job via conferences and workshops. Critical Success Factors: To succeed in this position the Bears Eagles Program Assistant you must have some experience working with children and youth with or suspected FASD, FAE or CDBC, and their families, and should have a degree in Child and Youth Care or a related field.
