Dietary Aide 
Department: DIETARY Job Title: DIETARY AIDE - Day JOB SUMMARY: Performs a variety of duties in relation to the preparation and distribution of meals. Performs other related duties such as serving, washing dishes and cleaning kitchen and dining room areas. REPORTS TO: General Manager or Assistant Manager KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Participates in the preparation and assembly of breakfast. Prepares and serves beverages and food items such as tea, coffee, and toast. Cleans and washes trays, dishes, cutlery and cooking utensils and returns them to the proper storage area. Sets up dining room tables for meal service. Cleans and maintains storage and kitchen work areas, dining areas, and related areas. Performs all duties in relation to the serving and distribution of food. Also ensures that food is served in accordance with the dietary requirements of the resident. Checks and restocks dietary supplies. Maintains established food rotations and storage in order to minimize spoilage and waste. Ensures dietary equipment and supplies are used and stored in a safe and efficient manner. Reports unsafe or faulty equipment to the Assistant Manager. Ensures dietary equipment and designated work areas are kept clean and tidy. Maintains a current knowledge of and complies with all departmental policies and procedures. Assists in the training of new employees when required. Performs duties inclusive of covering the front desk duties, serving meals and assisting with food preparation. Performs other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training and Experience: Grade 10, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Completion of Food Safe Level I. Job Skills and Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Ability to deal with others effectively. Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position. Ability to organize work. Ability to operate related equipment. Must be in good physical health and free of communicable disease. Shift Time: 11:00 am to 6:00pm (I) DIETARY AIDE TRAINING When placing your orders stay at the station until the cook or prep cook has confirmed that she has heard your total order. When ordering a Special Diet plate, tell the cook or prep cook for which resident it is. When ordering a Cold Plate, tell the cook or prep cook for which resident it is. Inform the cook and prep cook when you are serving your last table. When serving a meal to a resident who is sight impaired make sure to tell the resident what food is on the plate. Flatten all plastic containers before putting them into the recycle bin. Flatten any box after you empty it. When having serving assorted desserts, serve the diabetics and fruit only residents first so we do not run out of the diabetic desserts. Dislike cards are to be filed alphabetically. The garbage goes into the garbage bin. The newspaper goes into the blue bins beside the garbage bins. The laundry soap is in the bottom cupboard closest to the door in a pail in laundry room 1B (Key is on the 1 st floor housekeeping and the office key rings). Wipe off salt and peppershakers and sugar bowl as you go. Fold housekeeping rags and put into pails and place in housekeeping room on B wing on 1 st floor. Fold dietary aide aprons and kitchen rags and put away. GENERAL GUIDELINES Do not put any garbage cans on the counters in the kitchen. This is not hygienic.
