Assisted Living Manager/Nurse 
ASSISTED LIVING MANAGER/NURSE JOB DESCRIPTION Reports directly to General Manager or Operations Director Objectives: To monitor and maintain optimum care for residents To monitor all activities relating to day to day care of residents To provide reporting information for clients Job Summary Responsible for planning and providing safe, effective care of residents according to facility policies and procedures, and College of Licensed Practical Nurses of British Columbia. Role model for staff team members, assists and direct team members to meet defined goals of nursing care. 1. Administrative Responsibilities Ensures compliance with all Regulations relating to Assisted Living. Ensures compliance with all applicable health legislation, Assisted Living requirements and facility policies. Develops and maintains good relationships with related health and government agencies. Liaises with other professionals in the community involved in planning for assisted living (i.e. community care nurses, social workers, mental health workers, elderly services, etc.). Ensure that facility policies and procedures pertaining to nursing care of residents are developed and changed as needed. Promotes conflict resolution in relation to staff, residents and family members as needed. Promotes effective communication with doctors involved in patient care (i.e. house physician, family physicians, gerontologist, etc.) in consultation with the administrator or owner, purchases equipment and supplies for the nursing department. Tour potential residents and their families. 2. Assisted Living Functions Oversees all potential admissions and transfers with external agencies to ensure appropriateness of placement. Oversees that quality standards of care are maintained. Oversees the development and implementation of individual resident care plans in conjunction with the resident, the resident's family, the physician, the care staff and any external agencies involved. Oversees initial care conferences and annual care conferences for each resident. Helps to ensure that the physical, spiritual and social needs of residents are met Seeks to ensure that the legal interests of all residents are protected and their choices are, as much as possible, respected. 3. Staff Support Functions Hiring process includes screening of appropriate candidates for the position of care aides. Oversees orientation, evaluation and termination of care personnel. Oversees continued nursing certification and upgrading. Participates in the preparation and administration of the nursing budget as required. Reviews care aide meetings. Shares current health care data and protocols with nursing and care aide staff and implements changes where appropriate. Attends the Medication Safety Committee meetings and develops procedures for the safe and effective storage of medication and administration of the residents' medication in a manner that complies with the Pharmacy Act. Available to assist with problem solving as it relates to care aide services. Assesses staff developmental needs together with Administrator, plans and implements educational programs. Personal Qualifications Willingness to promote Shuswap Lodge philosophy, objectives and mission statement. Positive interpersonal relationships with employer, residents, colleagues/staff and external agencies. Positive qualities of character and conduct: integrity, loyalty, courtesy, initiative, sound judgment and ability to work independently. Ability to maintain and respect the spirit, dignity and individuality of the residents. Leadership and organizational skills. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position. High level of computer literacy. Education/Experience Graduate of an accredited School of Licensed Practical Nurses. Current registration with College of Licensed Practical Nurses of B.C. 2 years nursing experience. Knowledge, extensive experience and understanding of all aspects of geriatric care. Immunization Certificate for Licensed Practical Nurses. Dealing with workplace Conflict Certificate Understanding Labor and Employment Laws Certificate. Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate.
