Skwah First Nation Employment Opportunity Position: Finance Manager Location: Chilliwack, BC Term: Full-Time About Skwah First Nation The Skwah First Nation is a member of the Pilalt Tribe of First Nations situated along the Hope River. Skwah s traditional village site is now known as Five Corners in downtown Chilliwack, BC and approximately one-third of our nation s 660 citizens reside on Skwah s main reserve located at the historic Chilliwack Landing, two kilometres west of our traditional village. Fishing, rodeo, and canoe have always been foundational parts of life within Skwah First Nation. Skwah s Chilliwack Landing Preschool Kindergarten has served the development of children within the community and surrounding area for forty years to help children reach their full potential. Our community is nearing completion of its Comprehensive Community Plan and has recently been accepted to begin the process to develop and adopt our own land code within the First Nations Land Management Act. Finance Manager The Skwah First Nation is seeking a qualified Finance Manager responsible for providing accounting and financial management and support services in a timely and accurate manner and in accordance with best accounting practices. The Finance Manager provides leadership and expertise in the implementation and management of the financial planning policies and systems that guide the development, monitoring, control, and reporting of the nation s annual and long term capital, operating and revenue budgets and forecasts. The successful applicant will have significant and proven skills and abilities developed in a senior finance role, preferably in a First Nation organization. The Finance Manager maintains strict confidentiality in performing their duties and demonstrates the following personal attributes: Integrity, Respect, Trust, Honesty, Compassion, and Accountability. Position Summary: Manage all financial operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. Manage Human Resources including pension and benefit plans. Work with department heads to create and manage budgets. Manage Band investments, economic opportunities and reporting and audit requirements. Supervise finance support employee(s); e.g. payroll clerk Research potential funding, programs and projects, as required. Defining, reviewing and updating plans and goals consistent with the long-term strategic objectives of the Skwah First Nation. Qualifications Degree in Commerce or Finance with a combination of experience and knowledge of sound financial management practices. CMA, CGA, CA, or CAFM designation preferred Minimum 5 years experience in financial management. Experience compiling, analyzing, developing, and preparing data, reports, forecasts, and recommendations for Boards or Band Councils. Excellent communication skills, written and oral. Familiarity with Band programs, regulations, practices, policies and procedures. Understanding of First Nation history, culture and contemporary issues would be an asset. Working knowledge and experience in proposal and grant writing. Knowledge of financial and reporting requirements for ISC and other funding agencies. Salary Range: Commensurate on qualifications and experience. Closing Date: October 30, 2020 @ 4:00 p.m. This is a full-time position.
