Shepherd s Home Hardware Building Center , located in Armstrong BC, is a large and growing business located in the beautiful North Okanagan. We are looking to attract a progressive and accomplished accounting professional to join our team as Controller . We are seeking an individual who can demonstrate effective financial leadership, reporting directly to the owners and play a pivotal roll in directing the Company through continued success. The minimum requirements would be to have a Professional Accounting Designation and three years of accounting experience in a business environment. Salary will be negotiated dependant on experience and qualifications. Controller The Controller manages all financial, collection, data processing, office management, purchasing, inventory and administrative personnel and services. As a key member of the management team, participates in planning, growth, and evaluation of staffing. A key responsibility is the planning and implementation of financial plans, budgets and on time reporting of results to ensure a profitable Company. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Plan, organize, direct, delegate and train office staff in the activities required to maintain an accurate and professional accounting system. Responsible for the effective management of human resources of the office staff and to promote a cooperative team environment amongst themselves and other departments. Provide sound advice to the owners regarding all matters having financial implications to ensure long term financial stability of the Company. Prepare monthly and yearly internal financial statements on a timely basis to enable the best possible business planning process. Complete or oversee bank reconciliations and posting entries into GL. Establish internal control policies, create forms and monitor adherence to ensure both safeguarding of Company assets and integrity of financial information. Prepare Accounting Review working papers, coordinate and assist Accountants (KPMG) in their review to ensure an accurate and timely yearend financial review. Manage both Company s cash position and bank financing to ensure required commitments are met on a timely basis. Manage and oversee IT. Complete and/or oversee payroll, including employee benefits and adherence to Company policies. Provide assistance and cooperate with insurance brokers, and legal counsel for the conduct of Company business. Obtain vehicle insurance for Company vehicles as required. Other related duties as required from time to time. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Professional Accounting designation. Three years related experience in the accounting field. Excellent written and oral communication skills with a skilled, confident and flexible approach. Sound knowledge of financial principles and practices, internal control systems and procedures and budget management experience. Ability to establish and maintain an excellent and effective professional working relationship with staff, owners and customers. Advanced computer skills. Interpersonal skills with the ability to work cooperatively and productively in a team atmosphere, showing initiative and drive.
