JOB POSTING External - CUPE Local 1050 Position: Pipelayer I Status: Seasonal Full-Time Posting Date: June 26, 2019 Application Deadline: July 10, 2019 by 4pm Competition number: 19-35A Wage: $29.82 How to apply: Please send your INTERNAL APPLICATION FORM to: Human Resources Manager City of Quesnel, 410 Kinchant Street Quesnel, BC V2J 7J5 Email: hr@quesnel.ca (Word or pdf document only please) Interviews and testing may be required GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY The Public Works Department requires a seasonal full-time Pipelayer I to assist with a variety of Utilities department duties, most of which are physical in nature and performed both in and out of doors. This position reports to the Utilities Superintendent and/or designate. This position is open to all female and male applicants. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES The Pipelayer I will be expected to perform a number of specific duties, including: Repair and replace damaged pipes, hydrants, valves, manholes, catch basins and any other related items or facilities The flushing of hydrants and water mains when required The servicing of hydrants and water line valves The winterizing of fire hydrants The cleaning, flushing and rodding of sewer lines, catch basins and manholes when required Laying pipe for the sanitary sewer system, storm drain systems, water distribution system and other pipelines Constructing and installing thrust blocks, hydrants, valves, manholes, catch basins and culverts Proper use of shoring cages Performs required labour duties involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew Other related duties as assigned In performing these duties, the Pipelayer I will be required to operate various pieces of equipment such as jack hammers, air compressors, sewer rodders, pipe saws, pipe tapping tools, power saws, chain saws, lawn mowers, light trucks and compactors. QUALIFICATIONS At a minimum, the successful applicant possesses the following qualifications. Minimum Grade 12 Education Must hold and maintain a valid Class 5 driver's license Physically able to carry out the duties associated with the position Must be able to communicate effectively in English with other employees, supervisors and the general public The successful applicant must be willing to acquire EOCP certification. Preference will be given to those holding Water Distribution I or II certification (1061211h)
