Utilities Pumping Station Operator 
Status: Full-timeWage: $31.07 Competition number: 17-20A The City of Quesnel is a vibrant community where 10,000 people live within the city limits and another 13,000 live in the surrounding area and call Quesnel home. The City of Quesnel requires a full-time Pumping Station Operator in the Public Works Utilities Department. This position reports to the Utilities Superintendent or Utilities Foreman, and will carry out assignments related to the Utilities Department. This position is open to all male and female applicants. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City's water and sewer pumping stations and PRV stations, and for the integrity of the City's water and sewer systems through regular checks and sampling, inspections and maintenance of equipment and systems, while ensuring all legal requirements are met. DUTIES AND TASKS * Routinely checks water and sewer pumping stations, recording pertinent information in log books; * Takes water samples as required by the Ministry of Health; * Performs laboratory tests as needed for sewer sampling; * Performs sewer and water service line inspections, turns water services off and on and provides field sketches of water service box locations and sewer inspection tee locations; * Responsible for routine hydrant maintenance and winterizing hydrants and standpipes; * Responsible for mechanical maintenance needed in the sewer and water pumping stations, and ensures that major mechanical problems are diagnosed and properly repaired by qualified personnel; * Ensures all legal standards are met and maintained; * Participates in on-call rotation * Substitutes for Foreman/Utilities Superintendent when required, which involves supervision of crew; * Must be willing to work overtime in emergency situations; * Other related duties as may be assigned NOTE: The above is not an exhaustive list, but merely highlights the major duties and tasks. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: Minimum Grade 12 or GED equivalent Minimum Water Distribution II certification Waste Water Collection I certification Minimum of four (4) years' experience within utilities department Must hold and maintain a valid Class III Driver's Licence with air endorsemen Knowledge: Knowledge of sewer and water pumping stations as well as water, sewer and storm distribution systems Knowledge of WCB Health and Safety legislation Skills and Abilities: Good literacy skills; Good communication skills, both orally and in written form in English Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and provide direction and assistance to seasonal workers or junior personnel, if required Excellent interpersonal skills with other employees, supervisors and general public Ability to understand and effectively carry out written and oral instructions Sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to permit the performance of manual indoor and outdoor work in all weather conditions Must participate in on-call rotation Must be willing to obtain Water Distribution III qualification within given timeframe How to apply: Please send your resume with competition number, in confidence to: Human Resources Advisor City of Quesnel, 410 Kinchant Street, Quesnel, BC V2J 7J5 Fax (250) 992-1512 or Email: hr@quesnel.ca (Word or pdf document only please)
