Cheslatta Carrier Nation is seeking the services of an Director of Finance / Comptroller ?at the Cheslatta Band Office POSITION SUMMARY: The Finance Controller provides both operational and program support to the Cheslatta Carrier Nation (CCN) and works on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to budget management, cost benefit analysis, and forecasting needs. The Finance Controller is responsible for all financial and fiscal management aspects of the CCN operations. This role provides leadership and coordination in the business planning, accounting, auditing, financial reporting and budgeting efforts of the band. Other responsibilities of the role include leading and developing the Finance department by managing and reviewing the activity in the accounting area, ensuring internal control compliance and timely, accurate reporting. This also includes educating other staff members by raising awareness and knowledge of financial management matters. The successful candidate: Out of your 10+ years of experience working in the role of Director of Finance / Comptroller, you have spent a significant amount of that time working within the administration of a First Nation who is governed under the Indian Act. You are unphased by the working environment of a semi-remote community. You possess a professional demeanour combined with an easy-going personality. You can easily adapt to a changing and challenging environment, and you are solution driven. You enjoy working as part of a team as well as alone. Community needs may require you, on short notice, to take on tasks to assist Chief and Council and other Nation employees and contractors with urgent and unexpected situations as they arise. The candidate will be expected to assist the Director of Operations and Chief and Council with transitioning to financial management practices under the First Nations Fiscal Management Act, including policy development and implementation. As Director of Finance, you will be responsible for initiating these tasks and helping the Nation mange this change. This includes preparing reports for and attending meetings of the Finance and Audit Committee. You are experienced with the financial management requirements associated with own-source revenue generation from contracting opportunities undertaken by Nation owned businesses. You will be responsible for budgeting, planning and forecasting contracting revenue in collaboration with the Lands and Resources Director. You are also experienced in assisting Chief and Council plan, budget, and report on the use of revenues derived from trust accounts. The successful candidate will have experience in the preparation and monitoring of expenditures associated with capital plans, including the forecasting of operations and maintenance, as well as managing the financial requirements of existing tangible capital assets. You are willing to invest your time in the interests of the community and its members during a time of development and transition. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:? Undergraduate degree in Business or Administration (or equivalent experience)? An accounting designation (CPA) ? 7+ years of experience as a Director of Finance / Controller ? Experience in strategic planning execution; with knowledge of contracting, negotiation change management? Experience in organizational development or transition management? Comprehensive knowledge of and demonstrated experience with GAAP? Experience in leading teams; motivating and guiding others towards goal accomplishments? Exceptional time management skills and superior analytical skills ? Proven interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others ? Excellent computer skills and able to demonstrate proficiency in accounting software (such as Adagio, Paydirt) etc. ? Excellent oral and written communications skills?
