Job Summary : Part-time term vacancy - 28 hours/week, 18 months (or upon the return of the incumbent) The Family Therapist provides family-based interventions for families experiencing trauma, specifically around the abuse or sexual assault of a child. The Family Therapist assesses client s social, psychological, emotional and/or behavioral issues, and provides clinical counselling to meet the needs of the clients. Qualifications - Education, Training and Experience: Master s degree in Counselling Psychology, Social Work or a related field. Knowledge of child development, family systems, and impact of trauma on children, youth and adults. Knowledge of family therapy approaches, such as systems theory and attachment theory. Two (2) years recent related experience in clinical counselling with families preferred An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Responsibilities: Interviews clients and family unit to gather case history information. Assesses, using formal assessment tools, social, psychological, emotional, attachment and/or behavioral issues affecting clients and family unit. Identifies core areas of concern to be addressed by clinical counselling and develops family-based intervention plans. Provides information on and referral to other community service providers, resources and professionals as required. Participates in the development of client service plans with the case management team. Plans, prepares and conducts individual or family therapy sessions using therapeutic techniques drawn from theoretical frameworks such as family systems, solutions-focused, narrative, attachment and psycho-dynamic. Provides crisis intervention and ongoing assessment as required. Provides therapeutic interventions to clients and families that facilitate positive family communication and functioning. Facilitates parental skill building on issues such as parent-child interaction, child development, discipline and guidance, and behavior management. Monitors and evaluates clients functioning and interaction with family and other connections in the community. Provides follow-up support to clients after the end of therapeutic treatment. Advises other professionals involved with the case and makes referrals where more intensive treatment is required. Formulates and facilitates support groups in program areas for clients and/or their families as required. Maintains clinical records indicating assessment and the nature and duration of treatment. Provides reports on clients intake, progress and discharge as requested. Maintains statistics and provides program reports as required by the Society and funder. Membership with the BC Government and Service Employees` Union- BCGEU A valid driver s license and availability of a personal vehicle in good operating condition for work purposes.
