Employment Opportunity General Manager of Community Services (GMCS) The Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District (ACRD) is situated in the heart of Vancouver Island. It includes the municipalities of Port Alberni, Tofino, and Ucluelet, the Treaty Nations of Huu-ay-aht, Uchucklesaht, Toquaht and Yuutu?it?ath and six electoral areas, all encompassing the West Coast s most dramatic and majestic landscapes. This is an exciting time to join our team! We have an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated, energetic individual grounded with local government experience to take a leadership role as a key member of our senior leadership team. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the duties and responsibilities of the GMCS include the development, evaluation and recommendation of delivery options for services that include water and wastewater systems, landfills, airports, local and regional transit services, community and regional parks, and summer recreational programs. Additionally, the GMCS works closely with the Board and its Committees on policy development and service levels while taking a leadership role in maintaining and improving occupational health and safety to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of services. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated superb planning, leadership, organization and supervisory skills. This significant role requires a professional with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with an elected regional board, ACRD team members and those of the member treaty nations, municipalities, and non-treaty nations, residents, business, a wide variety of volunteers, community groups and government agencies. A degree in Civil Engineering or Certified Engineering Technologist with 5 or more years of related experience in a local government environment with responsibility of overseeing multiple services would be an asset.
